Medical Students Boost COVID-19 Vaccination Rates with Motivational Interviewing

Source: University of Pittsburg

Medical students at FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine used motivational interviewing (MI) to address vaccine hesitancy in the uninsured NeighborhoodHELP program. Over 1,500 phone calls led to an increase in vaccination rates from 15.2% to 44.3%. While the initiative faced challenges such as low call response rates and growing vaccine apathy, it successfully engaged community members and provided students with valuable experience. Future efforts could explore in-person outreach and local partnerships to further improve vaccine uptake.

Assessing Impact: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Workplace Mental Health Programs

Source: Bright Pine Behavioral Health

Workplace mental health programs, including manager training and enhanced insurance, are vital for reducing burnout and boosting productivity. However, evaluating their effectiveness is challenging due to a lack of standardized measures and varying organizational goals. While high-quality randomized control trials (RCTs) are scarce, continuous assessment of participation, usage, and employee feedback can help organizations tailor and improve these programs. Emphasizing both process and satisfaction is crucial to ensure programs are both effective and valued by employees.
