Building Resilience: How Corporations Are Adapting to Climate Challenges

Source: Ecolytics
Most discussions about corporate climate agendas center on how quickly large businesses are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing their environmental impact. For example, ahead of COP28, the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, representing $4 trillion in revenues and 12 million employees, emphasized emissions reduction goals. However, less attention is given to how corporations are adapting to climate change and building resilience. A warming planet threatens infrastructure, energy, and food systems. For instance, Nestle's global operations rely on stable agriculture across multiple countries, all of which face unique climate risks. While cutting emissions is critical—especially for industries like oil, gas, and food production, which are major emitters—corporations must also prioritize adaptation to safeguard their assets and innovate in the face of climate risks.

Study Finds Significant Health Disparities Between US and UK Adults

Source: Medical Express
A new study reveals a significant health divide between British and American adults in their 30s and 40s, with UK adults showing better cardiovascular health. Researchers analyzed data from over 20,000 individuals participating in two long-running health surveys—one from the UK, focusing on those born in 1970, and another from the US, covering those born between 1976 and 1983. The findings indicate that Americans face higher rates of obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, with greater socioeconomic health inequalities as well. While the study didn't delve deeply into the reasons for these disparities, researchers suggest that the UK’s state-funded healthcare system might play a role.
For example, 30.4% of non-Hispanic White Americans had hypertension compared to 19.3% in the UK, and obesity affected 40.4% of the US group versus 34.5% in the UK. However, British participants reported poorer self-assessed health and had a higher smoking rate. The researchers speculate that differences in exercise, diet, poverty levels, and access to free healthcare could contribute to the poorer health outcomes in the US. Overall, while Americans may have worse health outcomes, there are still significant health challenges in the UK, highlighting the need for improvements in both countries through better health practices.

Bullock Supports Pitt’s Move to Block Jolie’s Oscar Nomination for Maria

Source: inTouch Weekly
Sandra Bullock is reportedly supporting Brad Pitt in efforts to prevent Angelina Jolie from receiving an Oscar nomination for her new film, Maria. This development suggests that Bullock is not only competing for an Academy Award herself but also actively trying to block Jolie’s recognition. Their tensions date back several years, with sources indicating lingering resentment from past roles, particularly regarding the 2013 sci-fi film Gravity. An insider told In Touch Weekly, “Sandra definitely has a history with Angie,” adding that some in Jolie's camp believe Bullock's role in Gravity should have gone to Jolie, who was also interested in the part.
