Childhood Hardship May Strengthen Resilience to Anxiety Disorders

Research has shown that young people who experience adversity, such as traumatic or stressful events during brain development, are 40% more likely to develop anxiety disorders in adulthood. However, most individuals who face these challenges during childhood and adolescence demonstrate resilience to these mental health effects.

A new study from Yale suggests that the timing of adversity during brain development plays a role in how susceptible individuals are to anxiety and other psychiatric issues in adulthood.

Published on March 5 in Communications Psychology, the study found that experiencing low-to-moderate levels of adversity during middle childhood (ages 6 to 12) and adolescence may help build resilience to anxiety later in life.

The researchers observed that individuals who developed resilience to mental health challenges showed distinct patterns of brain activation when distinguishing between danger and safety, a process often disrupted in those with anxiety disorders.

"While higher levels of childhood adversity are linked to a greater risk of mental health problems in adulthood, our findings suggest the situation is more complex than that," said Lucinda Sisk, a Ph.D. candidate in Yale’s Department of Psychology and lead author of the study.

Jay Bhattacharya is finally getting his opportunity to address his long-standing Covid-related disagreements.

The Stanford health economist rose to prominence in 2020 when he co-authored an open letter criticizing U.S. public health leaders for their handling of Covid lockdowns and school closures. On Wednesday, he will present his case to senators, defending his stance and explaining why he was right, his critics were wrong, and why they should approve his appointment to lead the National Institutes of Health, the country’s foremost health research agency.

Justin Bieber Faces Personal Assistant Resignation Amid Behavior Concerns

Justin Bieber's longtime personal assistant, Mateo Caldas, has reportedly resigned from his role.

According to The US Sun, Caldas, who has been working with Justin and his wife, Hailey Bieber, since 2018, left his position to focus on his acting career.

It remains unclear whether the couple has hired a replacement or plans to do so.

Page Six reached out to both Caldas and a representative for Justin Bieber for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

This development comes just weeks after Justin's representative confirmed to TMZ that the singer was distancing himself from "several close friendships and business relationships that no longer served him." The rep also mentioned that this year has been a "transformative" one for the 31-year-old artist, who is committed to supporting his wife and their 6-month-old son, Jack Blues. Additionally, the rep denied rumors about Justin using drugs.
