Resilience & Mindset Mastery
Think Long Term and Build Financial Resilience with These Essential Tips
Understanding Financial Resilience
Financial resilience isn’t just about having a large savings account; it’s about having contingency plans in place for unexpected situations.
For example, could you manage if interest rates increased, you lost your job, your car broke down, or you separated from your partner?
Being financially resilient means securing your situation, no matter how unpredictable life can be.
Start an Emergency Fund
An emergency fund acts as a buffer against financial shocks, such as losing your job, being unable to work due to health issues, or needing unexpected home or car repairs. Having these savings can be the difference between managing a setback and needing to borrow money.
The investment platform Hargreaves Lansdown publishes a “Savings and Resilience Barometer,” which it updates every six months. It defines financial resilience as having enough savings to cover at least three months’ worth of essential expenses in case of an emergency. According to the latest data, 65% of people have reached this milestone. If you’re among the 35% who haven’t, consider working toward building up to that level of savings.
Build a Realistic Budget
Budgeting tools, often available through mobile banking apps, make it much easier to track your spending compared to the old days of receipts and spreadsheets.
Sarah Coles, a personal finance expert at Hargreaves Lansdown, suggests: “Building an emergency fund often starts with creating a budget to see where your money is going. This can help identify areas where you can cut back a little and free up cash for savings.”

Which Coffee is Worst for Heart Health? Cardiologists Weigh In
If you're one of the 66% of Americans who drink coffee, it's likely hard to imagine starting your day without it. For many, having a cup of coffee is such a staple in their morning routine that they’ve set up an automatic coffee maker to brew a fresh pot, ready to enjoy as soon as they wake up.
Since daily habits have the biggest impact on our health, it's important to understand how your coffee routine affects your heart. According to cardiologists, the effects largely depend on how you prepare your coffee.
Is Coffee Good for Heart Health?
The impact of black coffee (without any additives) on heart health has been the subject of mixed scientific research. “There have been numerous studies with varying results. We do know that coffee can raise blood pressure and increase artery stiffness, both of which are detrimental to heart health. However, one study found that drinking coffee in moderation might reduce the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other heart health risk factors,” says Dr. Edo Paz, MD, MPH, a cardiologist and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs at Hello Heart.

Oscars 2025: Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Denzel Washington and More Left Out
Ariana Grande, Demi Moore, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, and Zoe Saldana were among the actors who received recognition for their performances.
However, several other talented actors — including Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington, and Pamela Anderson — were completely overlooked for nominations. Jolie, 49, earned praise for her portrayal in the Maria Callas biopic directed by Pablo Larraín. She won an Oscar in 2000 for Girl, Interrupted and had also received nominations for a Golden Globe, an Astra Film Award, and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Maria. She was also honored at the 2024 Gotham Awards. Yet, some fans and critics had anticipated her Oscars snub after she failed to secure a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Similarly, Kidman, 57, garnered praise for her portrayal of a CEO involved in an affair with a younger intern in Babygirl. The film sparked viral moments, such as the controversial milk scene, which drew significant attention to the project.
