Gold Medals and Mental Health: The 2024 Paris Olympians' New Focus

Source: Teen Vogue

At the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, Noah Lyles captured the world’s attention by winning his first Olympic gold medal in the men’s 100m—marking Team USA’s first gold in this event in 20 years. The race concluded with a dramatic photo finish.

Shortly after his victory, Lyles shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he battles asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and depression. “What you have does not define what you can become. Why Not You!” he wrote. This is not the first time Lyles has openly discussed his mental health. Before the postponed 2020 Tokyo Games, he revealed his use of antidepressants and his decision to stop medication before the Olympic trials. Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez supported him at the time, praising the relief she experienced from similar treatments.

The conversation around mental health in sports has evolved significantly. Simone Biles, for instance, took a stand by stepping away from competition in Tokyo after experiencing “twisties,” which affected her mental and physical connection. Biles, a survivor of sexual abuse by former team doctor Larry Nassar, had been vocal about the need for better support and accountability from USA Gymnastics.

This year reflects a pivotal shift in how mental health is prioritized and supported in athletics.

Prince Harry and King Charles' Rift Deepens: Inside the Latest Strains in Their Relationship

Source: US Weekly

Prince Harry and King Charles III’s relationship continues to deteriorate, with no signs of improvement. Despite a "warm" but brief meeting earlier this year, the father-son bond has recently reached a new low. Harry's demands for reinstated personal security for his family—lost when he stepped back from royal duties in 2020—have intensified tensions. A source reveals that Harry and Charles are now at odds over these security concerns and have stopped communicating. Harry, concerned about his family’s safety following Princess Diana’s death, believes his father could assist in his ongoing security battle with RAVEC.
