UIC Launches Club to Help Students Manage Stress, Inspired by Resilience Course

Kayla Daley began feeling “not the greatest” toward the end of high school, though she couldn’t quite pinpoint why. The feeling worsened after she moved from the northwest suburbs to Chicago to start college, and she began experiencing symptoms of depression, loneliness, and anxiety.

“It was my first year of college, and I didn’t expect things to go the way I wanted them to, mentally,” Daley explained. “I was new to the city, and not used to the noise, the crowds, and I had never lived in a diverse community before.”

For a while, Daley said she was “in denial” about the struggles she was facing, mainly anxiety at different levels, and how she had ended up in that place. However, a psychology course on resilience that she took during her second semester of junior year helped her see things differently.

“That class really opened up my perspective and made me accept myself,” Daley recalled. “It helped me understand the paths that led me to where I was, but also showed me that resilience is possible, which was a major takeaway. It changed my life.”

The ‘Sticky’ Dilemma in Public Health: RFK Jr. Weighs In

The recent shift in focus from weight loss to the mental health benefits of exercise, such as improved sleep and well-being, doesn't negate the fact that exercise also burns calories, aiding in weight management. While the 'calories in, calories out' theory is complex, it's a helpful framework for managing daily caloric intake and expenditure.

Among various exercises, running stands out for its calorie-burning potential. However, running may not be suitable for everyone, and individual factors like body weight affect calorie burn. The best exercise, is the one you're most likely to do consistently. Other effective calorie-burning exercises include cycling, jumping rope, boxing, mountain climbing, and high-intensity interval training.

For those starting a new workout routine, it's advised to consult a doctor, especially if there are existing medical conditions. Starting with walking and gradually increasing intensity can be effective.

Justin Timberlake Hits a Wardrobe Snag on Stage, Needs New Pants

Justin Timberlake recently experienced his own wardrobe malfunction.

Earlier this spring, the singer worried that his DWI arrest might derail his Forget Tomorrow World Tour. However, the tour has turned out to be a major success, topping sales charts.

During a performance, Timberlake encountered a wardrobe mishap he’d prefer to keep under wraps. But as he knows all too well, these things often go viral.

On September 28, 2024, Timberlake performed at Audacy’s 11th Annual We Can Survive concert at the Prudential Center. But it was during his December 12th show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena that the wardrobe malfunction occurred.

As part of his performance, Timberlake wears a tight-fitting harness, which typically helps him rise above the crowd during his dramatic rendition of "Mirrors." While it’s not quite as dramatic as Pink’s 2009 VMA performance, it’s still a striking visual. However, this time, the harness was a bit too tight, leading to the malfunction.
