Cable cuts, whether submarine or terrestrial, usually cause disruptions to Internet connectivity, especially when there are no alternative routes. However, two recent cable cuts in the Baltic Sea caused minimal disruption, thanks to Europe's resilient Internet infrastructure.
On November 17, 2024, the BCS East-West Interlink cable between Lithuania and Sweden was damaged, affecting about a third of Lithuania's Internet capacity. Despite this, traffic volumes in both countries remained unaffected, as shown by Cloudflare Radar graphs, due to rerouting through other pathways.
